The Dissection of a Poem, an essay
All threads, one loom: The Intersection of species and systemic oppression

Where does morality trick us? It operates as a brutal silent moral hierarchy, one that tricks us into prioritizing and ranking suffering, thereby sanctioning some forms of violence while condemning others. The poem, "All Threads, One Loom," is a hammer taken right to the foundation of that hierarchy. It is a statement that demands we look beyond individual injustices to see the singular, diseased root that feeds every form of systemic violence: speciesism, classism, racism, sexism, and colonialism.

This essay, "The Dissection of a Poem," uses the poem's verse as a structural blueprint to unweave the architecture of oppression. By examining its powerful stanzas, we will trace three crucial, interconnected threads that reveal the system's true nature: the shared cage of control between Speciesism and Sexism; the tragic link between Speciesism and Classism & Racism; and the enduring legacy of Speciesism & Colonialism. All violence is fundamentally woven together, and as the poem concludes, the fight for total liberation must be a single, unified front. Let the unweaving begin.

All Threads, One Loom

From the steel-barred stall where the dairy-mother weeps,
To the high-speed line where the weary worker sleeps,

A single, vast white canvas is spread,
Woven from the threads of patriarchy we dread.

Behind the cage of cold and steel-barred gloom,
A worker's spirit breaks in a slaughter room.

For countless lives unseen, denied the warming sun,
The profit engine turns, the crushing wheel is spun.

On stolen lands where Indigenous voices bleed and fall,
Colonial greed casts shadow across the living all.

The earth itself is caged, its heartbeat trapped and tied,
Bound in the selfsame chain where sacred life is priced.

The wounded threads cannot break alone,
For the ruler’s power holds a divided throne.

To rank the deep wounds is a failure of sight,
Our shared liberation is forged in the fight.

Tearing down the walls between us and nature

Society loves to draw strict lines around what is valuable and what is disposable. Pigeons and doves, creatures that were once deeply revered, are now routinely dismissed as urban "pests" simply because their utility to humans has faded. The parallel to the queer experience - the vibrant, resilient misfits celebrated through my photography - is undeniable. Shahrokh’s devoted care for Paloma stands as a powerful allegory for marginalized souls who survive and thrive in environments that often refuse to understand them.

The Sharok and Paloma

“When I look at them, I don't just see a portrait, I see a beautiful reflection of our shared existence, a gentle reminder that we are all cosmic cousins.”

"The Unseen Empathy" is my personal invitation to you. It is a visual plea to recognize that we are all woven into the same grand tapestry, and that separating ourselves from nature is simply an illusion. Through Shahrokh and Paloma, we see that true intelligence and beauty often thrive in the very beings society chooses to overlook. To reclaim our empathy for these creatures is to reclaim a deeply beautiful part of ourselves. And now I ask you: Do you stand by me?

“Deeply rooted in his Iranian heritage, Shahrokh’s connection to pigeons is a testament to a shared legacy of compassion and respect for the natural world.”
